  1. Hello

Great video, i like how you've used the music at the beginning and the end. You are very clear on what you want to get out of the course and things you've done so far!

    Well Done,

    Heather x

  2. Hey Heather! Thank you, your video is fab! You encouraged me to make mine. You explain exactly what you want out of the course and helped me structure my video clip so, thank you for your help. I like following you on blogger you keep me on task, you're very good and time management and completing tasks on time. I'm just starting part 2 of module 1. Hopefully see u on tues at the 2nd campus session :)

  3. Hi Natalie

Great video! I really like the music at the beginning and the end. It looks like you used iMovie? I did too, but didn't think about the addition of music! Such a good idea - if you were feeling really brave you could have something you were singing as the introduction?!

Did you write down what you wanted to say before hand? I have to admit I didn't. Although I did think about the way I wanted to approach the task. I just did recording after recording and picked the bit I wanted. That's not to say I didn't think about it first!

The only criticism I have is that it is almost double the required length. There was so much more that I wanted to say in my video (which is such a nerve wracking experience! Do you agree?) but felt the time restraint was there for a reason and should be adhered too.

  4. Hi Megan!

Thanks for your comments and ideas. I chose 'Pencil full of lead' as I love the song and wanted to make the video a bit different. Using a clip of me singing is a good idea, but if I'm honest I get embarrassed listening to myself sing, the same as watching myself perform. However, watching yourself perform or listening to your singing is the best way to improve as a performer and make yourself better, but I always find it hard to do.

I wrote some bullet points of ideas before filming my video as I didn't want to stubble over my words and lose my trail of thought. I made about 3 takes and chose the better one. I decided to film it in one go as I wanted the video to come across as natural as possible and not be too edited.

I know I went over on length but it wasn't intentional. My understanding of the task time 45 sec, was a guideline time not a restricted time. Having done some research of the task looking at other BAPP students on YouTube many were over the 45sec time, so I personally didn't think it would be a problem to go over.

  5. Hi Heather,

Really good video with really clear points about why you were doing this course and what you hope to gain/have already gained! I am still plucking up the courage as I really hate the idea of talking directly to the camera and having to hear/watch myself back - you wouldn't have thought I'd have wanted to pursue a career in this industry!

Do you have any tips of how to do it? I have bulleted points like you did but I'm still scared (how pathetic).

Also, like you said to Heather, you too are really good at keeping on top of things in terms of time managing and I find myself particularly looking at yours and Heathers blogs to make sure I am on the right tracks!

See you at the next campus session :)

    1. Hey Amy!

I hate talking to camera and watching myself back. The best way to overcome the fear is to just do it!

To help me, I wrote some bullet points on my laptop and looked at them to remind me of what I wanted to say. I recorded the video a few times to get it right without any stumbling over words.

Other people have spoke to camera and edited the best parts, see what works best for you. I had a look at other students video from previous years and some used imagery with text or images with a voice over you can maybe try this style if its easier for you.

I'm sure your video will be great! Make yourself do it, and think how pleased with yourself you will be by completing something you fear.

Your blogs are really interesting, being a teacher myself in a school setting they are relevant to my professional practice and follow you closely, so thank you for your ideas.

Look forward to watching your video :)

  6. Hi Natalie

I love that song too - I did my Advanced 2 Tap dance to it (it's pretty fast for my old legs to tap to!)

It's interesting reading everyone's comments about this task! I think everyone was really nervous...

I agree that the length could have been a guideline, and as I've said I think your video is fab, but I still think twice the suggested length is a bit long - as I said above there was so much more I could have/wanted to say - I think I managed about 4 sentences in 45 seconds! I also agree that others have gone over the guide too but I deliberately stuck to the guideline to allow us all to be judged on an even plane... (and because the teacher in me loves a rule, I can't help myself!)

It's interesting that you said you didn't want yours to be 'too edited', I deliberately edited mine to show that I had working knowledge of movie making packages. I think it's really interesting how everyone has decided to approach the same task differently.

I agree with the others that you seem to be on top of things - really well done!

    Take care

    Megan

  7. Apologies for second post...

I've just thought to myself how apt that you said "Having done some research of the task looking at other BAPP students on YouTube many were over the 45sec time..."

What a brilliant example of the use of Web 2.0 technologies to help us form an opinion! Rightly or wrongly we allow the behaviour of others who have (rightly or wrongly) already formed their opinions and used a public forum to express them to influence our own views on things.

  8. Hi Natalie.
Great video, loving the music fading in and out. :)
Very nice and descriptive. Even though it is perhaps double the time, it doesn't seem it. It's easily watchable. Will be uploading mine by the end of the week ha ha.
    Enjoy.
